Bald Blair Angus

The Bald Blair Angus Herd was started by the White Brothers in 1888. In 1908 H.F. White registered the Bald Blair Angus Stud. The Stud was run by Richard and Sam White up until January, 2005. It is now being run by Sam White and his family.

The Bald Blair Angus Herd

This year, 2014 we plan to have on offer 90 Angus Bulls; 80 Rising Two Year Old Bulls, and 10 Yearling Angus Bulls. This rise in numbers is part of planned increase in Stud numbers and is planned to give our clients more choice at Sale time. As the Stud continues to develop we look forward to having more bulls available in each of the successive years. In the 2013 year’s sale there were a number of new bloodlines available for sale, including TC Franklin 619, TC Aberdeen 759, HARB Pendleton 765, Sitz Jackson 431T, BR Future Direction 4268 which remains essential in maintaining genetic diversity in our herd and in turn yours. In addition there was progeny from our own proven sire lines that are continuing to perform in our herd, in Debonair D34 and Highlander C126, proven in the ASA Sire Progeny Program.
Bald Blair remains a Seedstock Herd backed by its own Commercial Herd. Our objective has always been to run our herd on a commercial basis, with our commercial herd being the proving ground for bulls from our seedstock operation. Commercially we maintain a very strong focus on the Japanese Longfed Market and the EU Market, and also on breeding our own replacement females. This continues today with our breeding objectives still focused on:
Fertility
Calving Ease
Growth
Carcase Data, (EMA and IMF in particular)
Complete Objective Data Collection, to ensure the best description of our cattle’s genetic potential through breedplan as is possible. This year will see the results of the whole herd HD50K Analysis with Zoetis incorporated into the Breedplan analysis of the Bald Blair Herd.
As has been our practice in the past we continue to remain vigilant in the testing for the unfavourable recessives of AM, NH and CA. In addition, all bulls offered for sale at Auction will be tested free if they have been identified as a possible carrier on the Angus Society Website. These will be described, AMF, NHF or CAF, or AMFU, NHFU or CAFU if they have not been identified as a possible carrier. I remain encouraged by your continued support for the stand on not offering carrier bulls for sale.

Bald Blair remains an MN3 herd in the NJDMAP.
